Admins and moderators you can delete this post if not welcome its ok

As this is a forum headed 3D Objects I figure its about time we had some actual 3D fun stuff to throw around in the forum

Toys at the ready and here goes :D

Ive been mucking around with a Zeppelin 3D Model and well if history is accurate the zeppelins had three main rivals the captain and crew avoided as much as possible.
1. FLAK AA GUNS
2. Pilots
3. Searchlights

Well i hope rise of flight 3d team do not slap me round the head but tonight i made one :)

I realise that searchlights 3D Model is not that hard to create and that the actual Script coding that produced the LIGHT BEAM ! and then moves it around the sky is the REAL hard bit to create.
So Rise of Flight 3D Team i dont mind if this post gets deleted its a script coding nightmare to write and i would understand totally , but hey someone has to take the first step.

I thought about how it could work then started looking for reference photos.

Never really thought about mobile searchlights till i started googling them and found some photos of searchlights on trucks and well i got carried away im sorry :D
So i looked if the Vehicle list in ROF Mission Editor had a truck that was close to the above photo ,,,

i may be wrong but quad in the vehicle list looks right and about the right size , ok its got a roof bit but hey it rains doesnt it lol

Anyway this is what i ended up with Rise of Flight , Mobile SearchLight on Quad

LOL

Well i think it looks ok , i could copy the actual photo if required but a searchlight would be nice.

Would this have been used against airplanes as well? During nighttime bombing raids for example (if those happened at all)?

Hi

Bomber planes flew day and night , some bomber planes had searchlights fitted to the plane to use with navigational map ,nothing the size of this searchlight ofcourse hehehe

but , yes searchlights for plane spotting and also they pointed searchlights at no-mans-land to keep watch at night.

:) Well its a script coding nightmare and to be very honest i have not got a clue about how this type of script is written i know its lengthy and complex :)

But the 3D model is here if rise of flight wants it , i made it for fun and show the idea of a searchlight with a difference , but i think the idea or concept of using the truck thats already in the flight sim makes sense and maybe is easier on the script writter but only by a small amount.

Ming

Show example photo of what you think is missing from airfield object list ?
I thought it was all present except people and a large crater where i last landed :D

Hmmm

Handley Page ops :) Ming your on to something with that report :)

So have i got this correct a STARTERS BOX is actually a first world war verion of a Control tower , it was around 10ft in height and enough room for a table phone and maps and two officers with a Morsecode man below with a morse code style lamplight and a WHITE and RED lamp on the top or side of the starter box ,,,, with a Hut big enough to cater for upto 16 pilots reference your post saying they got 16 planes up with in 30sec time schedule and a officer / CO on duty with a duty mission officer and map on wall …. so basically a hut that fits 18 people…

I think thats not hard to create , to be honest.
Photos would be good but i can reference a morsecode light and the huts more texture than actual detail , so only the starter box is what would need to be created and approval it looks like the description from the report you made :)

I can use the truck i made above as a reference to scale the 10foot height as its fairly close to the same proportions of the actual "quad" vehicle thats all ready in the simulator
Plus it doesnot have to be perfectly 10foot as your report reads :)

excellent Lets see what i can knock up today.

'off topic'

While you are modeling stuff (excellent work btw on both the Zeppelin and mobile searchlight),have you thought of modeling one of those humungous railway howitzers/guns?

I believe they had them in WW1 as I recall seeing photographs of them (somewhere!).

Capt. Darling, Lil Sparrow and I recently visited the imperial war museum in london and I was surprised to see a German Observation Periscope.

This was similar to a submarine periscope but higher.

Figures stated for the weapon's size, range, and performance vary widely depending on the source — not even the number of shells fired is certain.

Good luck with that someone :)

Looks formidable thanks
