Multiplayer FAQ with some known problems and issues from our Russian users.

1. Q: What port should I open to play online?
A: UDP/TCP 28000 and 28100 TCP for download of missions

2. Q: I create a server, but other players can’t see it
A: To create a server, you should have external IP address. If you have created a server but nobody can see it, create file “net.cfg” and add the following line in it:
server_IP <your real(external) IP>
Place this file into the folder with Rof.exe and also into the “data” folder of the game.
- since update 1.003 (08.07.2009) there is no need to create net.cfg - this can be cinfigured from RoF_Settings.exe utility.

3. Q: When I connect to the server I can’t see other player’s aircrafts
A: Create file “net.cfg” and add the following line in it:
client_IP <your local IP>
Place this file into the folder with Rof.exe and also into the “data” folder of the game.
- since update 1.003 (08.07.2009) there is no need to create net.cfg - this can be cinfigured from RoF_Settings.exe utility.

4. Q: I connect to the server and on the next screen I should choose side: Order/Opposite, what does it mean and which one should I join?
A: In missions like 5X Spad VS 5X Fokker, Order – means Spad side, and Opposite – Fokker. In missions like “Balloon Attack”, Order – is the side that should attack the ballon, and Opposite is the side that should defend it.

5. Q: I have chosen the side and I need to take airplane now, how can I do that?
A: If in the list of airplanes available to play in this mission you can see vacant one, take it, and click “Set Ready” button.

6. Q: I’ve chosen the side, but the list of airplanes available to play is empty, and all I can do is only to look at the online battle using external views.
A: This means that the mission had been started before you connected to the server and picked up ypur plane. You need to wait for the mission finish and restart.

7. Q: What for do I click “Set Ready”?
A: When you click this button, it means you have chosen your airplane and you are ready to fly. Mission will not be started until all players connected to the server will confirm readiness.

8. Q: How to cancel my Ready status?
A: To do this, click “Unselect” button and your previous choice of the airplane will be cancelled. Notice, if mission countdown is already running and you click “Unselect” button, then the Server put you in spectator mode and mission will be played without you.
To avoid this, we recommend you to choose a plane first, in this case the Server will wait for you to click “Set Ready” button.

9. Q:I can see the players of my side, can I see who chose the opposite?
A: If you click “Player bans” button, you will see the list of all players on this server and their status.

10. Q: I am typing in chat, but it seems other players can’t see what I’m typing.
A: Make sure that you have checked option “To all”, not only “To allies”

11. Q: I was shot down and had emergency landing, what should I do?
A: Press ESC button and click “Finish Mission” in the menu.

12. Q: Does the game use some other traffic except client – server one?
A: No, 99% of traffic is between client and server.

13. Q: I create dedicated server, but cant play using my account.
A: At this moment you can’t host dedicated server and play at the same time using the same account.

is creating the net.cfg file in order to see the other players aircraft necessary? Or is that just for people having the issue. I haven't tried playing online yet as was just wondering if thats something everybody has to do?

No, net.cfg is not necessary if multiplayer works correctly. Troubles can be only if you have several network interfaces and several ip addresses. In that case you have to specify wich one should be used in the net.cfg file as described above. We know that it is not good solution and it is just workaround. This issue will be fixed in nearest patch and net.cfg will not be used after this patch.

I'm having a problem with typing in the chat bar. Seems the MAP comes up when I type "M". Most likely other letters which are mapped to the game will do the same thing although I didn't use the chat function long enough to notice.

How can this be fixed?

I've tried this and my server (non dedicated) still does not show up.

Any ideas?

Same problem with a friend...
Both of us tried this...
Without the net.cfg files, the server is launched but nobody see it.
With these files created, the server does not start and I go back to main menu after 5 seconds...

Same here.

We both tried the following

1. with the net.cfg - after a few seconds at the loading screen, we are dropped back to the main menu.

2. without the net.cfg - neither one of us can see the game the other has created.

3. fustrated...

I had that problem also. I double checked my Ip. Once I confirmed my computer ip and used that number in my net.cfg files the multiplayer game sarted just fine. Still was not seen by anybody else however.

by server IP do they mean the default gateway or your internet IP or the computer's IP within the router.

I have tried all three and nobody joins??? I assume it is the internet IP but don't think anyone sees it when it is set up that way. :?:
