Lesson № 12.
Now we need to set Primary objectives for both sides, and also a Secondary objective for the Opposite side (according to the mission briefing, only opposite’s have a Secondary task).
In ME we should configure mission objectives for the Order side, because for the Opposite side all settings will be set automatically.
Please look at Pic. 57.
Pic. 57
Please pay attention, that from “parent” mission we have inherited several options of compulsory mission ending. For example, destroying of any American airplane will end the mission.
For each plane there is its Primary objective. But in “parent” mission American side was Order, and now American side is Opposite. Thus, we need to change the settings to the opposite ones.
Do it yourself, Pic. 57 should help you with this. Do not forget to change the message text (Zone 5, Field Description) to:
One plane of the Opposite team has been brought down. The Order team has won.
This text will be displayed in post-mission briefing screen. Pay attention, that it will be different for the each side (In our example we have used text for the Order side).
Do the same for the second plane and for its Primary objective. Now, in case if any plane of the Opposite side is shot down, the Order side will win (That is so, because we have checked Order Coalition and Success checkboxes). Messages about plane’s “death” will be sent by triggers Counter, which were already in use for the each plane in parent mission. Let’s step forward. Please find a Secondary objective for the Opposite side and configure it (See Pic. 58).
Pic. 58
- Zone 5, Type in “Description” field:
Both of your planes have safely landed.
You have completed the secondary task.
Now please find a Primary objective for the Opposite side and configure it. Look at Pic. 59.
Pic. 59
There is main difference in configuration of this objective.
By rules of ME operation, objectives are configured only for the Order side (Germany), that means, Checkbox “Success” should be activated for the Order side to win. But, we have already done this (See Pic. 57). How to configure the Opposite side? Leave “Success” checkbox blank. What do we have? Now, if this objective will be accomplished, i.e. Counter triggers (id:32 and id:33 on the picture) will send messages about death of two Albatros D.Va to the mission script, and that means the Order side has lost (Success checkbox inactivated). And vice versa, the Opposite side has won and has its Primary objective accomplished. That’s why we type in Description field (Zone 5) the following sentence:
All Order fighters have been shot down. The Opposite team has completed the mission.
We have looked into how to deal with Primary objectives for both side and with Secondary objective for the Opposite side. Let’s go to final mission appearance.
First, we will rewrite all Subtitles to make it in line with our objectives. We need to write unique subtitle for the each side and make it displayed correctly. Sure, you must not create a special Subtitle for each side; you can create only one, with more general description (easy way), but in this case, there will be no possibility to inform any side with some special unique information. More than that, if you will follow our actions (not an easy way), you can assign each side its color for Subtitles and you can display Subtitles at a specific time for the each side as well.
So we will take not an easy way, we will use the same time and color of Subtitles for both sides to display, but the content (meaning) of them will be different. As the Primary Objective for the Opposite side is the destroying of Order airplanes, then the Subtitle meaning should be in line with these conditions. See Pic. 60.
Pic. 60
- Place additional Subtitle nearby existing one → ТС from Timer to this additional Subtitle → Fill in “Duration” and “Font Size” fields by your own → Choose Top in “Horizontal Align” and “Vertical Align” fields (as it is a subtitle for Order side) → In Text field we type:
Order:
All your aircrafts have been shot down. You have failed your mission!
- In existing Subtitle → Fill in “Duration” and “Font Size” fields by your own → Choose Center in “Horizontal Align” field, and also choose Center in Vertical Align filed (as it is a subtitle for Opposite side)→ In Text field we type:
Opposite:
Wonderful! Enemy fighters have been shot down!
You have completed your mission. Head to the aerodrome.
Horizontal Align and Vertical Align settings for all next Subtitles in our mission should be set as shown in the example above. This will help a player to follow a certain pattern - looking at the same place of the screen to read needed information depending on what side he is playing for.
Let’s go forward. Pic. 61.
Pic. 61
- Place additional Subtitle nearby existing one → ТС from Timer to this additional Subtitle → Choose Top in “Horizontal Align” and “Vertical Align” fields (as it is a subtitle for the Order side) → In Text field we type:
Order:
You have only one aircraft left. Hang on!
- In existing Subtitle → Choose Center in “Horizontal Align” field, and also choose Center in Vertical Align filed (as it is a subtitle for the Opposite side)→ In Text field we type:
Opposite:
Excellent! One of the Albatros planes has been shot down!
In the Pictures below, you can see other Subtitles and texts that should be used there. Please place and adjust them by yourself. All settings for the each side are the same as in abovementioned example.
Pic. 62
Order:
Try to shoot down any Nieuport 28!
Opposite:
Take off immediately!
There are two enemy Albatros fighters which you should bring down!
Pic. 63
Mission will end in 15 seconds – for this Subtitle, choose Bottom in Vertical Align field, as this subtitle is common for both sides.
Opposite:
Both of your planes have safely landed.
You have completed the secondary task.
Pic. 64
Mission will end in 30 seconds - for this Subtitle, choose Bottom in Vertical Align field, as this subtitle is common for both sides.
Order:
One of the enemies has been shot down. You have completed your mission.
Opposite:
Your wingman has died. You have failed your mission!
Pic. 65
Mission will end in 30 seconds - for this Subtitle, choose Bottom in Vertical Align field, as this subtitle is common for both sides.
Order:
One of the enemies has been shot down. You have completed your mission!
Opposite:
Your wingman has died. You have failed your mission!
We have finished with the subtitles. Now with every in-game event a player will have appropriate on-screen message.
Ok, two things left for us: icons on a map and mission localization.
Please look at Pic. 66.
Pic. 66
- Place MCU Icon on the airfield.
- Configure Icon for Opposite’ planes as it is shown in the picture. We have both checkboxes (Opposite Coalition and Order Coalition) checked, that means this icon on a flight map will be visible for both sides.
- This Icon → Create ТС → to the existing Icon nearby Albatros D.Va.
- Zone 5 → MCU Basic Properties field → type “Opposite planes”.
Picture 67 illustrates the settings of the landing point for the Opposite side.
- Zone 5 → MCU Basic Properties field → Type “Landing Point of the Opposite planes”.
Pic. 67
As you can see, in the Landing point settings for the Opposite side we have only one checkbox checked (Opposite Coalition). That means only Opposite side pilots will see this icon on a flight map.
We have already placed MCU Icon for Order planes location. Settings are the same as for MCU Icon of the Opposite side.
How to localize missions were described in lesson 9. Please do it yourself, if needed. That’s it! The mission is ready!
So far, lesson twelve is finished.
