A Special Gift to a Special Group

Back on July 2nd of this year we ran our first big aircraft sale and some of you could not take advantage of that sale because you had already purchased all the available aircraft to date. Some of you were disappointed you could not take advantage of that first sale. We were sensitive to your situation, but our options and remedies were limited. You purchased planes and supported ROF when many others were predicting its failure and the chips were down. We want to recognize that support by giving you the Sopwith Pup for free. We have identified all who belong to this small, select group and we have already activated the Sopwith Pup on your account prior to the release of the 1.015 Update. Enjoy your new plane and thanks for the support!

It's already been said but the professionalism and the dedication to the community is strongly evident in 777 Studios with this News. Thankyou for the Pup and the Community medals is a great idea and incentive for new pilots to jump in and join the community. Once again "RoF" flies high. Now must away to don the silken scarf and jump into my new cockpits.

Great sale ! As some kind of "amateur" RoF player, I didn't invest my wallet in all the planes before. But now, with this sale going on, and to support your team, i've bought'em all. Time to try them now Laughing

Continue improving this game and relationship with and within the community Smile

NavyGunner → 10/7/2010 5:23:00 AM #

WillyVonWonka → 10/7/2010 7:49:36 AM #

Wow!  Thanks for the Pup! I had no problems to buy it but thanks so much for the special gift. You folks at 777/neoqb freakin' rock! You've listened to us in the forums, so for me, once again, thank you! Keep up the great work!!!Smile

DeathTripp → 10/7/2010 9:10:38 AM #

Woah, this sale is back and again it's great. Back on july 2nd I had never bought any planes either but I bought like 5 when I saw the sale quick. I remember alot of people being kinda hurt because they had already bought all the planes. I think it's cool they are happy now that they got a free plane for a change. Heck.. I don't even get to play this game as much as I should but with this sale who wouldn't buy some planes? I hope they email this out if they really want people to know about it. I think I will play ROF alot more like I should when they add two-seaters. Now that is focking crazy.. two seaters?? I'll be in for life. I think 777 studios has done a pretty dang nice job so far. Keep it up bros.. there aint no other WW1 flying sim for guys like me. =D

Speck → 10/7/2010 11:20:34 AM #

Thanks LOFT, Jason, et al! It continues to impress me how supportive you are of us ROFfies. And it's awesome to be watching the continued growth of this sim.

Speck → 10/7/2010 11:21:41 AM #

PS - now, off to buy my Tripe Smile

Superluminal → 10/7/2010 12:38:35 PM #

So thats why I could not buy the Pup.Thought it was not ready for download or something Smile.Anyway, thanks a bunch!

Tomslik → 10/7/2010 12:40:05 PM #

Ha Ha Ha this happens to me alot Smile
I buy some thing and later find out that the next (usually better) model/version is coming out shortly! and its better and cheaper !
I didnt get the ICE version D'oh but did get the original version. But I ultimately purchased all the planes anyway.
Thats okay though, Ive been flight simming since the 80's - this sim (in my book) ranks at the VERY TOP !
I flew Falcon 4.0 for ten years, il2 for 3 (still
flying that though also) and lots of others !
I hope that this one will be around for at least
as long as Falcon !
I even bought an UBER computer just so I could fly Rise of Flight.
keep up the good work 777 , its much appreciated !
ps; I already bought the pup and tripe

expat → 10/7/2010 10:58:59 PM #

Rise of Flight is without doubt the best flight simulator I’ve seen.  However, as an historian I am somewhat perturbed by the dates of the Careers missions and the aircraft used in them.  For example, the Airco DH.2 was used mainly in 1916 to combat the Fokker E.III scourge and not later against the advanced German types.  Major Lanoe Hawker flew a DH.2 against Manfred Von Richthofen’s Albatros D.II in November 1916 and lost.  By March 1917 the DH.2 was no longer a front line fighter as they were easy meat for the Albatri.

The Fokker E.III “scourge” lasted from mid-1915 until spring 1916, after which the British and French took dominance with the Airco DH.2, Sopwith Pup and Triplane and the Nieuport.  The Albatros became the dominant fighter at the end of 1916 and this dominance endured until the Sopwith Camel, SE.5 and SPAD appeared in late spring of 1917.  The Fokker Dr.I Triplanes appeared in late 1917, and although very manoeuvrable and dangerous, they did little to influence the air war.  From then on it was the larger numbers of British and French planes that flew against the Germans, until the Fokker D.VII appeared in early 1918, that gave the Allies the edge.  By mid-1918, the Germans had learned to keep away from the British and French hoards.  The Fokker D.VII and other advanced types were too late in the war, and in too small numbers to have made any difference to the outcome.

So I believe that RoF’s Careers need a review to get the aircraft into their respective operational years and months.  I flew an Airco DH.2 mission dated June 1917 and met a Fokker D.VII, a Fokker Dr.I and a Pfalz D.XII !  None of these planes existed at that time.

When I was at school in the 1950s, our Technical Drawing teacher, W. G. Stacey, told us he had been a Sopwith Camel pilot during the closing five months of the first war.  He finished the war with no victories, mainly, he said, because the Germans immediately dived away to their side of the trenches when they saw the masses of allied fighters coming.  The main problem during those last months for the Germans was the question of serviceability – i.e. how many aircraft can you actually put into the air – and at that time, they couldn’t muster enough to combat the larger Allied squadrons.

My teacher also told us that more pilots were killed training in the Sopwith Camel than were killed over the front.  It was a plane that demanded respect and never forgave a bad pilot.  He also said that the persons the pilots respected most in the squadron were the riggers.  These ground personnel tightened the wires, checked the aerodynamics and ensured the plane would hold together.

I hope this helps.  Excellent Work for the rest of the simulator.  If I can help with English text, please call me.  I am British, but speak fluently German and French.

Cheerz,  Geoff (geoffrey4).

I just was writing a letter to warn you that someone had cracked your server and distributes the Pup when I a took a final look and found this thread. So I say: thanks a lot for the Pup and the Tripe is allready in my arsenal. Wink
As good games and especially good simulators are scarce in these times, it is not only fair but also important to support the developers by buying the products to give them a chance.
Well, even so I appreciate these new planes and the 1.015 patch I am still desperately waiting for the speedfix for the Albatrosses (see my threads, lots of evidence and sources). Especially with these two new "Camels light" the situation for Axis flyiers is getting desperate. At least online.  A corrected Albi-model would help!

JG2_TurnerVoss → 10/8/2010 10:08:39 AM #

Thanks again for the Pup! I also picked up the Tripe of course and passed the news of the sale to friends. Hopefully they buy all of the planes for themselves now.

Firecage → 10/9/2010 8:17:47 PM #

Well I am not that much on allied planes but I am going to buy them just so ROF has an extra few dollars to use for more R&D on new german 2 seaters 8)

Keep up the great work 777 !!

Gentlemen,

Congratulations on the best game in the world.  My hobby is WWI reenactment, and we often have planes fly over, strafe and bomb our wretched trenches.  Sometimes we shoot them down with a Madsen or a Chauchat.  ROF is a joy to play and a joy to watch.
