ROF ICE

Hello, fellow pilots!

Together with you we've carried through a great job for the last year. Through intensive disputes you tried to share with us your point of view on project's evolution and we tried to hear everyone and used your valuable opinion in our work. Along with the definite pluses of such intensive and productive work we’ve also found some minuses. One issue is the size of the initial update you need to download in order to start flying. In our last survey you highlighted this as one of the major problems. We understand this problem and decided to solve it by releasing all later updates on the DVD so new users will not have such difficulty. So we are working with our partners and releasing an improved and expanded version of ROF and it is called Rise Of Flight: Iron Cross Edition (ROF:ICE)

Please see the Press Release from our North American Partner 777 Studios. Download here.

ROF:ICE DVD will contain all innovations, improvements and new game modes since the moment of first release. Moreover there will be some of the best airplanes of WWI included in the package. Four German aircraft: Fokker D.VII, Albatros D.Va, Pfalz D.IIIa, Fokker Dr.1. And four allied aircraft: Spad XIII, Nieuport 28, SE.5a, Sopwith Camel. We wanted to increase the number of flyable planes available to new users and hope more and more virtual flyers will enjoy ROF. We will have more to say about ROF:ICE in the very near future.

Also there will be two campaigns included: recently released “Hat in the Ring” which takes us through the most important combat events of the 94th squadron, mainly formed from American volunteers, and the new campaign “Du Doch Nicht”, telling us about combat experience of Ernst Udet, German Ace, second before Manfred von Richthofen by combat performance. Both campaigns are based on real facts and made with maximal historical accuracy. The official Skin-Pack featuring hundreds of historically accurate paintjobs will be also included, so you won’t have to download them.

ROF:ICE will be released in North America at June 29th. We will have information about release in other countries at a later date and will inform you ASAP.

We hope to release the 1.013 update on 11th of June. The list of changes and improvements will be posted on our forum at the day of initial release.

A lot of users, participated in our survey, noted that the current release of demo-version is incapable to reveal all game’s potential and options.

So, along with 1.013 update the new demo-version will be released.

The Rise Of Flight Demo will include:

  • Two aircraft - Spad XIII and Albatros D.Va
  • Two single missions, one per aircraft
  • The full access to 2 multiplayer modes during all demo validity period
  • The demo validity period will be extended up to 14 days

Also we have one important announcement.

From 23:59, 6th of June all transactions involving credit cards, Yandex.Money and WebMoney in our online shop will be temporarily put on a hold due to the beginning of maintenance procedures with ChronoPay provider. The maintenance may take a week or two. For this period the only way to pay will be PayPal. Actually, it is not so bad, because it is the most stable and secure transaction system available today. For example PayPal is the only system approved by eBay for transactions. There's no charge to open a PayPal account and to transfer money from your bank account to your PayPal account. There is also no charge to purchase items using PayPal. It is very easy to create an account; you can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. More information about PayPal you can find here. We apologize for this inconvenience, but we hope to have our regular CC processing system up shortly.

Thank you for attention, we are getting back to work.

So Great news but did i understood right that the expanded version will be available "ONLY" on DVD s? if that the case then what about other pilots who don't have a retail in their countries?Plz tell me am wrong!

LOFT → 5/30/2010 3:01:09 AM #

You are wrong!
ROF ICE will be avalaible not only like the DVD version but also like the digital purchase. Where and when you will have an opportunity to buy it we will inform you here at the blog ASAP!

eafosprey → 5/30/2010 3:20:22 AM #

Does this mean you will have to purchase the future Patch's?

=XIII=Shea → 5/30/2010 12:05:34 PM #

This is great news,but i have a question,do existing
customers get the extra planes also if they dont have them?

Predator_TNT → 5/30/2010 12:22:43 PM #

LOFT Thanks man,you made my day ;)

dfgparasol → 5/30/2010 12:48:33 PM #

Does this mean you will have to purchase the future Patch's?

No, definitely not.

This is the exact same game as the one we have now, just that it includes 8 initial aircraft included with the game instead of the 4 everyone got in the past.

People who have the 2009 release of the game wont get 4 more aircraft for free, the 8 initial aircraft only applies to new cd-keys released with the ICE version.

DILLIGAF → 5/30/2010 1:18:23 PM #

I feel cheated, i bought this game on disk then paid extra for some of those planes u are now giving away free,do i get some free planes to compensate?

dfgparasol → 5/30/2010 2:05:39 PM #

I'm guessing that ICE is going to be a bit more expensive than RoF 2009 release... but maybe someone from Neoqb can give us a price estimate? ;)

athlondude → 5/30/2010 2:57:05 PM #

While this seems to be a good idea, I have a couple of questions.  First off does the Iron Cross Edition support Windows 7?  Secondly why limit the Iron Cross Edition to just those 8 aircraft, why not include all the aircraft released so far?  I don't know about anyone else but I don't think it would be a wise decision to release a new edition of this game if it isn't going to support Windows 7, or come with the a complete set of planes.  I know if that I would be inclined to buy ROF again if it came with all that, even if I had to pay a little more for it.

777Studios-Jason → 5/30/2010 5:58:15 PM #

ROF:ICE is the same product you have now and both versions are fully compatible with each other. ROF:ICE is simply all of the patches and enhancements you currently have to download (which can be tedious) included on the disk in new packaging. To spice up the initial offering we added 4 more flyables to the package and as a special bonus we added one more plane as a Launch Bonus (Retailers like this kind of thing). Which Bonus plane you get depends on which retailer you buy from. And the Free Bonus plane will be for a limited time. ROF:ICE is a product designed primarily for North American retailers. However, it will also eventually be released in Europe and it will also be released in Digital form, but not for a few weeks later after it is established in retail. ROF:ICE will become the standard SKU for ROF moving forward and replace the original ROF Ver. 1.0 Box at retailers. There are few Ver. 1.0 boxes left in the channels and they will most likely go on sale to move them to make room for ROF:ICE. Also, the MSRP for ROF:ICE is $49.99. Slightly higher due to the added planes and new packaging and posters etc. in the box. Plus, it would not be very fair to those that already bought it and purchased additional planes if we offered it at the same or lower price. We hope to do something for current users who already paid full-price and bought some planes, but details on that will come later. Also, the average user has bought 2 or so planes from our store. Some have bought all and some none. So, we averaged it out and decided that the new MSRP should be close to the average amount we know most ROF users are willing to spend. The $49.99 MSRP is very close to that average. We felt that is a pretty fair way to do it. The general business model of ROF remains the same with some planes in main SKU and others as add-ons. A lot of feedback from you the community was taken into account when we created ROF:ICE and it is much closer to what most of you expected at original launch a year ago. So this is a good development for ROF at retail and it should bring you some more wingies to play with or shoot down! Again, this is the new standard edition of ROF. We had to name it something other than the original name so not to confuse people or retailers. The Iron Cross represents, to me at least, the strength and toughness of the team to march on and keep fighting to being you a top-notch simulation under intense criticism and pressure. We hope you also recognize their hard work and wish us luck with the new edition.

Also, ROF works with Windows 7 as thousands of flyers use Win 7 with ROF everyday. As mentioned by the team, there are some issues with Win 7 that prevents ROF from running as perfectly as some would like, but it is a Windows issue that affects more games than just ROF. The team will continue to try and make ROF run as good as possible on all Windows machines.

Faz → 5/30/2010 6:42:12 PM #

I am so sick of all these perpetual moaners!
Any piece of news that comes out they find something to complain about.
I feel cheated blah, blah, blah.... well get over it!
I like many others have paid full price for the game and bought every plane and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
The team are trying to secure more sales, which in turn will make the project a stronger one, which hopefully in time will mean everyone who owns the game will benefit. So try putting your own personal greed to one side for just a moment and think of the bigger picture!
I think it’s great news and hope the team all the success with this.

777Studios-Jason → 5/30/2010 6:46:52 PM #

Thanks Faz, but it's ok if some people are a little irritated. We expected some angst to a degree. Like I said we'll try to offer something nice for those that have supported us up to this point.

Early adopters usually end up paying more for something when it's new, whether it be a Plasma TV 10 years ago or even IL-2 Sturmovik when it first came out. We've tried to be as fair as possible and we did raise the MSRP, not lower it. Some retailers don't like that, but said we have to respect our early adopters.

ICE is a great idea for new customers imho!
Keep up the good work Russian friends!

rlewin → 5/30/2010 7:35:56 PM #

Great idea guys, might I add in my humble opinion, put out service packs on DVD for a modest price that includes updates, biannually perhaps.  This would help people like me with only Dialup connection and make reinstallation much less of a chore.

dfgparasol → 5/30/2010 7:56:28 PM #

I think it's a great addition, because there are still people who would be interested in RoF, who simply haven't heard about it yet. This version will let people play offline with some of the RFC planes right away, as opposed to them being add-ons like before.
I'm sure new users will be much happier with their included SE5a when ICE arrives.
And ICE being more expensive is a good thing.

Nobody96 → 5/30/2010 9:10:49 PM #

I think ICE is a good idea but i am more impressed by the demo changes. With the 2 weeks multiplayer addition i will finally be able to infect another friend of mine with the RoF addiction. At least i hope so Smile

Also I hope the RoF team will get some more money with Ice and the new demo. First of all they earned it and on the other hand it will improve RoF. And yes, i'm quite surprised that i think a company i bought a product from should get more money. That never ever happened before Smile

so long

NovotnyCZ → 5/30/2010 9:12:38 PM #

Super news.
The only thing I regret is the fact that the Internet version will be up for grabs after release.
Here in Bohemia ROF is to buy at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I also bought him a lot more money than the normal price (not an option to purchase from the net).
And now I know that after the ICE version will be even more interested in my surroundings, but it is certain that the importer will have a very unreasonable price, so the only option is the Internet version. Left with no other option than to wait for the downloadable version. Smile
Good luck and have a few problems for developers and lots of new planes and bombers, especially for gamers.

grrrrrrr,

RoF in 2009 =

47 Euro + this
6 Addon-Planes in 2009/2010 = 32,70
=
79,90 Euro

RoF ICE is good for new Players .... but for the old Aces???????

Better i have wait for the new Version .....

Make new Planes (EIII/DH2...) for "old registered Users" cheap!

hackers-nackers → 5/31/2010 1:21:10 AM #

The way I look at it, is that the developers owe us nothing and as such dont need to give us old dogs "free planes"
When you buy a car you dont get an automatic upgrade when a new model comes out etc etc.
Good for them for trying to get new players to play this awesome game and as such secure its future.

If you want the extra planes so bad just buy them as the pricing structure is more than fair. Please do a search on the internet and discover just how much you would pay for a top end addon for Microsoft FSX.

It may have skipped your minds but all of us who purchased the game when it came out have a very different game at our dispossal now. Not to mention the enjoyment you have had in that period playing ROF.

As i say this is the way i look at it and i know others wont but dripping and moaning about freebies is counter productive.

Hope to see you in the virtual battle feild soon

Feathered_IV → 5/31/2010 1:32:40 AM #

Good idea this.  Neoqb needs to work very hard between now and the release of Oleg Maddox's new sim if they are going to get a good sized piece of the market.  This little head start is a very important opportunity.

This is in response to Jason at 777 Studios.  My complaint is that ROF doesn't work with Windows 7, my comlaint is that when I asked for support because I started having issues after the 1.011 that I they did not support Windows 7 and that it was Windows 7 fault.  I find that amusing after it worked on Windows 7 for so long and then after 1 update it goes to crap.  So as you can see Jason it my complaint is not that it doesn't work on Windows 7, but rather I am refused support when asked for help on it.  If that pisses some of you off that I am complaining about that, that is to bad, I spent the money on it, I should get support.  Considering that Windows 7 has been out for nearly a year, it seems rediculous to me that they are releasing a new updated version, and still no official support for the game.

76.IAP_Bibi → 5/31/2010 3:30:37 AM #

My Mail was Fun,
but i have the Problem, that RoF since one Year no run very good on my Windows 7 System. Daily Crash to Desktop!
In no other Sim i have this!
My System run very fine with all other Flight-Simulations!
Better for me, i have wait for ROF-ICE. Its no fun, have change the System from Vista to Win7, Sondcard from Onboard to Creative to Asus .... etc etc ..... and same Error!
The Price for the Planes is less than the Hardware that i buy ... to playing RoF.

By the Way i have almost all Addon-Planes from RoF! (The Price is) No Problem when the Game run!

Best Regards. Bibi

The name ICE - Iron Cross edition actually seems a bit confusing, at first I thought it was gonna be an edition with only german planes..
And the shortening ICE doesn't seem to have anything to do with aviation..

Why not ACE - Additional Content Edition? ;P

A great idea neoqb. I hope this goes well for you, you've come a long way in the last year.

Joker → 5/31/2010 2:51:23 PM #

Good initiative. Perhaps now I may create a new dvd image (I own the downloadable version), so in case of a crash I won't need to wait forever upgrading. Smile

Kudos for neoqb team!

raptorman0 → 6/1/2010 12:48:21 AM #

I think its a good thing, If ICE brings new players to the fold then it can only be good, bigger customer base gives them more reason to keep supporting/updating it.
As for the extra planes, well its always been the way that early adopters pay the most, we have been playing it for months.
Also I have been playing Rof on Windows 7 64 bit for months now and prev on Vista with no issues,I am really sorry for the guys having problems as it must be hugely frustrating.

Faz → 6/1/2010 11:08:10 AM #

Dilligaf - It may not bother u Miss Faz but some of us are on a buget any paying £5 per plane soon adds up, ive paid more for addon planes than i paid for the game and now some of those planes are free!!!

Miss Faz, ha ha .... I like it, its only on weekends mind!

My comments did not mean to single you out and I know I did quote you, so it is understandable that you thougtht that, but I was really trying to say that maybe it would be better if more people adopted a glass half full, rather than half empty attitude. I am also not just talking about ROF but also SOW; I have been closely following Olegs updates and here too people often winge, when really there is nothing to complain about.
Oleg and NEOQB are the kind of people that get the closest to creating a world where I am able to live out my boyhood dreams, of what was it actually like to be involved in aerial combat, I know all this is just the tiniest taste, a mere morsal and that no one really dies, but if the thoughts and stories of this as a child made your eyes grow wide, trying to imagine it, what it could have been like, then this is so far is the closest thing we have. And I will back these guys all the way

The extra aircraft do cost money and we only have so much free cash to throw at our interests, I know that, but more than anything I want to see this project succeed.

No hard feelings!

Cheers

fare do m8 i thought it was a dig at me, will keep the miss for now coz it is the weekend lol will be Mr faz from monday Smile
The point i was trying to make is myself like some others dont have alot of money and paying £5 for each plane adds up to more than the cost of the game in the first place.
Its just slightly anoying that late comers get some of the plane free that weve had to pay extra for Frown

I like the game and hope this version will bring in more players and keep this game alive BUT i would like to see a veterans one time discount two planes for the price of one. This one time purchase would show that you still care for the original purchasers who supported you all the way, I myself have allmost every plane and many more have purchased them all, so love the game a little sugar for the old boys would be nice too

V3teran(UK) → 9/13/2010 11:46:32 PM #

i think Neoqb should have some sort of offer for the people who have supported them since day 1,like giving a plane away for free,or two for the price of one, remember if it wasnt for the people that supported this game in 2009 then there may NOT be an ROF as we know it today.

altebo → 9/16/2010 6:05:47 AM #

i feel ripped off:
in germany you can buy rof: ice for the same price as the original rof six months ago. but with ice you get double the planes! i had to pay a stiff price to get those planes and think the people at neoqb managment are cheap digital pick pockets...

Bleddyn → 9/17/2010 3:41:22 PM #

@albeto

You can now buy IL-2 1946 for $9.99 US. I paid full price for each expansion as they came out. Each one cost more then the whole package does now. Have I been ripped off? No. I paid premium price to play it right away. I am sure that you can get ANY game cheaper if you wait until the buzz dies down.

Also, I recently bought a car that had a waiting list. I paid a hefty price to jump the line and get it when released. A year later people will be able to buy this car, brand new for much much less then I paid. But I have been enjoying it the whole time. This is not just the way software business works, it is the way business works. Front row seats cost more, always have, always will.

dark123456 → 10/26/2010 12:52:08 AM #

Dear friends, it is plain and simple and just boils down to what happens when capitalism reaches Russia. It is totaly unacceptable to pay extra for a finished programme and takes some nerves indeed to ask additional money for airplanes in a flight sim; I mean, airplanes!!! of all things.

But, as long as they get away with it, heck, why not? One born every minute... And it's a pity since it seems they have come up with a stellar product indeed. I refuse to be talked in by slimy tradefair con men, though.

Esteemed friends, please do not dare to compare this company's sales policy with Il-2, a flight sim that, may I kindly remind you, offered free planes and variations with every free update, patches released for the sole purpose of adding more for free, to better the game. For free. Because they respected the people who had bought their product. People. Not victims or milk cows.

Furthermore, dear simmers, I am surprised that so many here side with the company. "You made a great piece of software, rape me n' my wife so that we can have it". With all respect, it makes me want to puke. What hope may there indeed be to whip a greedy company to shape if the customer so willingly relinquishes his only line of defence, the option not to buy. Very little indeed...

But, after all, it's just me...

hoghead → 1/1/2012 9:31:21 PM #

I have Rise of Flight and wanting a better experience with it I've bought a flight stick, pedals, TrackerIR, and throttle for it. I've also bought all available planes and the new campaign - when they bring out a new add-on I’ll buy it. I love ROF; it's fabulous, complicated, and challenging. I am far from mastering it or even getting good with it. But I enjoy the challenge and love the realism and looks of it. It is like being in an air corps during WWI. I don't need jets for speed - I have trouble keeping up with these planes, so for me it is plenty fast enough. Also, it can be very complex which allows you to study it and WWI flying and tactics so you can spend years learning the subject and this simulation will stay ahead of you. It is the very best flight simulation available - guaranteed. Also, the support is excellent, very friendly, and helpful and responsive unlike most software companies.

hoghead → 1/26/2012 4:19:04 PM #

YOU ASKED FOR IT -
I wrote this review because I really believe in RoF and the team that is constantly trying to improve it. Not only is it the best flight sim but it has the best support of any program available - so RoF deserves good sincere reviews from its pilots. One final note RoF also has the best community of users as is demonstrated by the friendly and helpful responses found on its forums.

HERE'S MY AMAZON REVIEW -
I have been using Rise of Flight: The First Great Air War - Iron Cross (RoF) daily for the past six months and I have a lot of flight time on its planes. So, it is with amazement that I read some of the negative and IMHO totally uninformed and may I say stupid reviews of RoF. I believe RoF is certainly the finest flight simulator on the market.
You might think that since it is WW I era and since its planes fly slower, etc., it would be too easy - but it is not easy – it is hard but fun. It is a challenge because it is a flight simulation not a flight game. It has taken me a long time to become proficient with it but I would expect that since good simulations emulate real life.
I am not going to review the program here, since there are many fine reviews of it online at flight sim sites - for example. If you want to learn more about it or to see it in action - go to YouTube and watch some of its many videos. In particular, I’d recommend the Requiem Training Films - they not only show you the realism and beauty of RoF but how detailed this fabulous flight simulation is. Forget the negative reviews you read here on Amazon and research RoF on your own. Check the reviews at the many Flight Simulation sites and watch YouTube videos of what you’d experience with RoF – in other words - don’t take my word for it - investigate it for yourself. I think many of you will agree - it’s the best flight simulation ever!

Sablicious → 4/8/2012 1:51:58 AM #

Most of the models and such are sitting on HDDs at 77 just waiting for their 'timed' release.  The only likely 'real' expansion to this game is the  Channel map / missions yet to be released. ...and even that would have been kinda half-done since the initial release.

Gaymores these days are quite naive (retarded?) to think devs sit round working indefinitely on a product already on the market, just to please customers whose money they already have.  The content of these games is, for most part, held back / stripped from the "full" release of the games.

Anyone (with a brain) would have rather had a choice to buy the complete game at whatever price point 777 set and just shopped around to better the deal; thereby letting the market decide what the game is worth.  A skeletal game with 95% of its content removed is commonly known as "consumer fleecing".

And because niche games like this are usually only enjoyed by "enthusiasts" (read: OCD types), this fleecing model works.
