LOGIN OFFLINE? ACCESS GRANTED!!!

Hello, fellow pilots!

Today I’m going to fill you in on some of the new elements of the upcoming 11th version of Rise of Flight, which is expected to be finished before the end of February.

I told you previously about a new single player mode for ROF. We are preparing 3 different mission types in 10 different locations. Currently, testing is in progress and there is still much debugging ahead of us. Even so, the plan is still to get it into version 11. Simultaneously, we are working on the new multiplayer mode. We tried hard to get a lot of new features in that create a unique gaming experience that requires not only good piloting, but team strategy and tactics. I'll be sure to tell you more in future posts.

It's commonly understood that the Allies currently have the advantage in multiplayer battles. That's about to change. The next aircraft, we're rolling out will be another German fighter. There are a lot of disputes on the forums concerning the Fokker DVII's characteristics. In memoirs and other historical documents, it's described as an aircraft with huge potential. Though, as we can see in game, it doesn’t always live up to that potential. The devil is in the details; in this case, that means modifications. In Rise of Flight, we currently have our airplane installed with the Mercedes D.IIIa engine. But there was also an 'F' modification with a BMW IIIa engine. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that we are adding this modification. Despite the exterior similarity, it's a completely new aircraft; there will be plenty of differences (bullet counters in the cockpit, for example). We are still developing this bird, and I'm looking forward to flying it myself!

Despite all of the hard work going into new game modes, we are trying to spare some time for objects you've been asking for: features that make our virtual world feel more real. Today I proudly present the dynamic wind strength and direction indicator. They call it a "windsock" in aviation. For you modders out there, this object is placeable anywhere. Now, circling the airfield once before landing will not only serve as an homage to tradition, it will also have the functional use that made it a tradition in the first place. With wind speeds of over 3 meters per second, it's essential to know the direction for a successful landing. Here is the video.

Lastly, I'd like to divulge probably the most important news about the 11th version.

We've been tracking all of our users' wishes and desires. You helped us out immensely by answering questions in our dispatches, voting in forum polls and generally expressing your opinions. We've also been checking out network stats and market trends. As a result, we came to the conclusion that you all needed the ability to fly without a permanent internet connection (in some game modes). A network connection will still be necessary for new user account and profile creation. And, of course, multiplayer and a few other game modes still rely on internet access. But now, if your provider is down, you have insufficient funds, or you just plain hate to log into games all the time, you will be able to fly internet-free in single player mode or in the new 'Quick Mission' mode. We hope that this modification will ease your minds about personal intrusion and internet provider costs. After all, we developed Rise Of Flight to help you escape those every-day, mundane worries and just let you fly carefree!

To make 'login offline' mode available, all you'll need to do is download the upcoming update. After that, you will be able to fly offline, but only with the last activated online pilot profile. The system will gather statistics of your progress and keep it till your next connection to the server. At that time, all gathered data will be transferred to affect your rating and overall statistics. And of course, connection will be needed for additional content purchase and game updating.

But everything else is in your hands!

We are completely aware that this change will simplify further creation of illegal copies, thus jeopardizing our potential income. But the creation of highly-realistic aviation simulators in our commercial world is impossible without an optimistic point of view. And right now, we are feeling pretty optimistic. I'm sure that the number of legit pilots, happy with this decision, will outnumber the illegal copies. So spread the word to all of your friends that balked at the login requirement and didn't purchase RoF. Now, there is no excuse not to give it a try!

Thanks for reading. And now it's back to work.

Thanks for the update and please be aware that there are some of us who appreciate the hard work you are all putting into this sim.

Does this mean when playing single player off line the load times of game will be a lot less.
This is what really bug me starring at PC for 2 minutes waiting on game load.

PikAs53 → 1/31/2010 6:20:10 AM #

The offline status is definitely a step in the right direction. I am sure that most people who take an interest in a "hardcore" sim like RoF are fully aware that projects like this and the genre at all can only survive if they buy the products.
So I think you can ease yourself.
For me it was the reasons to buy planes that I personally don't like (like Camel and Dr.1) or which are said not working properly (like Pfalz DXII). This way I can give you support to go on and improve.
Thanks for the efforts!

No. Long load times caused by your PC performance, not because of online connection.

Now we are really getting somewhere, the last 2 updates where a huge improvement overal, but what we got here, I simply don't know what to say, so I'll keep it to a simple bet big THANK YOU ALL AT NEOQB.
This is what I call suctommer support, this is what I call listening to custommers and even taking risks for them.
and than that Fokker, YOU'VE MADE MY MONTH.

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY WINDSOCK!

Jokes apart, at least some news, and quite good news. Smile

Just one thing that I want to know...will be the  Fokker D.VIIF must be bought even if you got the "standard" one? The list of WW1 aeroplanes with the same name, but quite different engines is quite long...

QUAID → 1/31/2010 8:37:57 AM #

Great news.
Did you improve the  single campain ?

NickM → 1/31/2010 8:57:25 AM #

Great stuff! I love the windsock and the D.VIIF is going to be a very welcome addition.

Best flight sim available.

Cheers,

The windsock distinguisches the simulator from games. Cool feature, makes tackeoff/landing more imersive! Thank you !

I new the F would come. Laughing
A plane to be expected in a WWI simulator.
Though, Your Damn fast on the "F", I grand you this! ;)
Impressing how far you took RoF in such short time, still amazed!

Ein herzliches Danke!

Thank you for the clear and informative update!
Single player offline mode, new multiplayer mode (hopefully that is the option to respawn after being shot down we've been petitioning for), and a working windsock.
Yep, that just about clears the desk for the "necessities".  Smile

Looking forward to this update and future updates that polish the best flight sim available.

Thank you for the hard work NEOQB!

So will the D.VIIF be the next plane or do they have another German plane waiting? The language is not clear.

I was a devoted fan with some worries, but now you wonderful folks have gone and ramped it up another notch. Excellent news!  I patiently await another update that'll give some more TLC to this beautiful sim. No internet connection! Sweet! The ever present windsock issue completed...awesome. A sober DVII that actually flies without being drunk, clumsy, and slow. Perfect! Thank you neoqb for the hard work! Much love!

Reflected → 1/31/2010 12:10:01 PM #

A big thumbs up for the windsock and the offline mode, and a big thumbs down for giving us another late war plane ruining MP even further. There are tons of planes that played a very important role in WWI, but you keep releasing better and better ones regardless of their importance so the leaderboard surfers buy the new best device to keep their points up. I bought RoF because I wanted a wwI sim....Frown
Also, I truly hope you've worked on the constant crashes, the stuttering and the FFB problems too.

Salute All:

Great news all round.  Thank you for the hard work you guys/gals have put into this game.  I personally am a bit disappointed that there is no mention of a Dogfight Mode yet, but I'm sure it is in the works.  An ETA would be nice.

Again thank you:

Excellent works.  I think the devs for ROF are the worlds best ever. Not only do they listen to what the gamers are saying but they avidly put these ideas to practical application within the game structure...truly wonderful.

ROF is a masterpiece in its own right, classic and technological all rolled into one.  The amount of detail in this Sim is meggafantastic as it is anyway and to see more inclusions is a credit to the ongoing brilliance that the collection of dev-wizards have put together for all to enjoy.

Thank you for ROF, so far I have immensley enjoyed every minute of the whole ROF sim experience.  I have bought nearly al the planes now too, I did this to support the game.

regards and continued success

I have really dropped this game for now.
Untill there are dogfight servers with some kind of re-spawn capability.
I die, blow my engine and the odd crash on take off alot and waiting 15 minutes or my for a map to cycle gets a little boring...yawn....

I love this realism in RoF and...

Perhaps some small,turbulance

would Greatly add to the realism
in this exellant Sim.
(could be optional in flight realism options)

Hello Lefty-neoqb Team Laughing ,

Im a huge fan of WW1 and WW2 air battles, and i've quite nice setup to run this game on, in fact from all the newest games on the market the RoF is the only one that i can run on the max definition,  i'll like to ask you guys if you'll work on this patch the following issues.
1-The heavy stutter.
2-Sound problems.
3-Official 64bits Os support.

Im really thankful for the game, beside this technical problems the game is the best WW1 Sim ever created.

See yah

FA_Bong → 2/19/2010 1:08:44 PM #

I know it has probably been said before but here goes.. If someone were to make a copy of the game it would require the unique ID code for that disc right? It would require the player to register this bogus copy with the website right?, now if that ID has already been registered it should get flagged, yes? I would think that this would keep most illegal copies from working, My biggest problem now is that should for whatever reason there be a glitch and I lose connection with the server mid game it shuts down, without saving progress, kills, achievements etc..I get understandably pissed and my hard earned money spent would seem to be taken for granted, I don't buy flight sims or any kind of sim for online playability or competition I buy it for personal enjoyment of my free time, sure I have a great Internet connection but S#it happens, even on Steam you can continue to play (single player) even if you lose connection with the steam server. I didn't buy the DVD and unfortunately unless I save and back-up everything If several years down the road the server or company producing this fine sim dry up I won't be able to play it even offline if this type of "protection" were to continue. Many other games are beginning to go this route and a lot of us "old timers" don't like it. just my $0.02

frodosco → 3/5/2010 8:30:07 AM #

i think the latest patch is the pits massive stutter weird sounds unplayable to say the least

Nietzsche → 3/7/2010 6:18:31 AM #

I will remain severely annoyed if I cannot make this game work offline.  "Internet connection required" should be on the front of the box in big red letters.

OMD → 3/9/2010 4:27:05 PM #

I absolutely agree with everything," FA_Bong",says.Thank god they made they made the offline patch, I have been waiting for months, Now if I can just get it to work.
