Gameplay

Hello.

The Christmas holidays come to a close as we jump right back into work. We have great plans for 2010, mostly concerning the gameplay. We intend to develop new interesting game modes and objects in order to make flying the RoF skies more friendly, for veteran and newcomer alike. Moreover, we hope to offer something brand new to the whole aviation simulation genre.

Today I would like to tell you about one of the new game modes.

It will be a new single player mode available from the main game menu. You'll be given an opportunity to create different and varied custom combat situations for training purposes or just for a quick, no-hassle flight. This will allow rapid mission creation for everyone but leave a wide array of options for experienced pilots. You start by selecting the location of combat which forms the main superstructure of every mission. Three types of locations will be available for three mission modes: "Air Combat", "Duel" and "Act Of Bravery". Locations will be arranged in different places on the historical map. Different locations will have different options, most for "Air Combat".

You'll have to create your own flight, two ally flights and three opponent flights. The types of aircraft can be set for each flight. The fuel levels, armament and aircraft skins are manageable for each aircraft, as well. Experienced pilots can choose type of formation and their position in formation. Then you can set yours, and your opponents', altitude, direction, orientation and relative distance. You can pursue your opponent or, on the flip side, escape from pursuit. You can take off from the airport or start combat in the air.

Different ground units (e.g. AA guns, vehicles, trains, ships, etc.) can be added also. You can then set the weather conditions and the time of the day and, finally, take off. Every created preset can be saved and shared with your friends. It's our hope that this game mode will be available for beta-testing in the very near future.

The most veteran and active RoF community members might recognize this type of quick mission generator. Laser, a very talented and dedicated community member, created something similar in 3rd-party app form. I enjoy using it myself and suggest you try it also. We would like to kindly thank Laser for such an outstanding job!

In conclusion, I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the various polls and such, traditional for Christmas holidays. We got some very important awards, as a result. Of course, the most valued among them are the awards from gamer feedback. We are very grateful for your recognition and promise that we'll do our best to justify your appreciation and acclaim for the same awards this year.

We are working hard to create even more features to tell you about in future Blog updates. So with that, bye for now and thanks again for reading!

thanks for the news and congrats with the awards!

Great ! these are great news !
I have just one question though, it sounds like you will be forced to play 3 flights vs 3... will it be possible for less ? or for even more ?

I'm new to RoF but this seems a lot like IL2's quick mission builder (which is good :p) but what frustrated me in IL2 was the limit of 4 flights with 4 planes each...

DerMo → 1/12/2010 4:06:11 PM #

I think most RoF players would rather like to have a campaign instead of a simple mission builder..

CPT-Sir → 1/12/2010 4:32:33 PM #

Good addition! No, GREAT addition! Thanks

Winkle → 1/12/2010 5:04:51 PM #

How about the dogfight mode?

Lenni → 1/12/2010 5:15:51 PM #

I want a Respawn function ^^
Keep up the great work Neoqb!

Jaws2002 → 1/12/2010 5:20:43 PM #

Dogfight model first please!!!

Endy → 1/12/2010 10:34:21 PM #

Thanks for the update, looks good.

R.Wolf_KOHAH → 1/12/2010 11:15:03 PM #

Check the interface panel gents. Only one I see "dogfight" options? ;)

sallee → 1/12/2010 11:29:38 PM #

Keep it up chaps.
I'm enjoying all you've done.

Cobra6 → 1/13/2010 12:10:21 AM #

Congrats on the awards! And a good thing the gameplay itself gets some attention now. the campaign tends to get a bit dull sometimes.

TheDuck → 1/13/2010 12:19:40 AM #

This is a good developement but does it allow for mutiplay "quick gen missions"?

purpjj1 → 1/13/2010 1:03:47 AM #

Thanks for a great sim.

Will these changes include the use of the "New planes" we purchased?

I hope so!

Joe

You folks deserve the awards.  The QMG looks great, but like others have said I would love to see the single-player Career get some bulk, substance, guts, because it is somewhat, horribly I might add, void of content.  But I imagine you folks are working on that, as well.  Thank you for a great job!

ametller → 1/13/2010 4:07:22 AM #

Those are GREAT news! This new quick mission editor seems very complete and customizable. Thanks for listening to the community. We really wanted this!

Butch_Nackley → 1/13/2010 7:56:18 AM #

Wow, this looks great!
Thank you Smile

Rivet → 1/13/2010 7:34:42 PM #

Congrats on the awards. Well deserved.

I can only echo ametller's words above. The quick mission generator looks great and is exactly what was needed.

I would imagine a dynamic campaign mode is far more involved to put together, at least one that will satisfy the community (we tend to have high expectations), but all things come to those who wait. Patience is the key.

Congratz with the awards and thanks for the news.
Any new planes coming?
Keep it up!

Cougar_DK → 1/14/2010 3:57:06 PM #

Nice, looking forward to it.

Would it be possible to save the mission for later and then make it MP by hand?

sherman → 1/14/2010 6:23:00 PM #

I don't get it were do you by it and what's the dogfights for

Zent → 1/14/2010 8:38:46 PM #

This is a welcome addition, i think it is really a must for training purposes and quick fun and i am looking forward to it.
BUT the online DF mode seems to me very much more important. This would really make a huge difference in what you can do with ROF instead of the rather minor one with the QMB.

AtlantaFlyer → 1/14/2010 11:00:35 PM #

the single player QMB looks great but seriously...where are the dogfight MP servers!?? that should be the most important thing going right now as the coop is getting extremely OLD and boring.

Tigertooo → 1/18/2010 2:41:59 PM #

I support the sim from the beginning as it is a great sim. But people need  DF servers and individual COOP servers, aka Il 2, so one can fly with one's friends. The moment that will be implemented, the selling of RoF will increase dramaticly, imho though.
It is strange that since the release of the sim, an avarage of 30 pilots online can be seen as "successfull", but RoF deserves to have 1000 online pilots by now.Work on that issue and you'll be rich...lol
As till now i fully keep supporting the efforts of the team
Thank you

Keys → 1/21/2010 5:47:56 AM #

I agree that this is a great WW1 simulator and hope many more pilots will discover and join ROF .
Keep up the good work. I suggest a lobby for multiplayer where pilots can meet and plan to go to various servers.

GuIgoOdaRAF → 1/26/2010 12:48:34 AM #

You chaps can count on another BRAZILIAN player on RoF !!!!
I wanna introduce myself, so ...
My name's Guilherme and i'm 13 years old, I live in a little town called Neves Paulista in the state of São Paulo ... i think that's it !!!

See you guys in the skies !!

Viper69 → 1/26/2010 3:44:31 PM #

Any word on a dynamic campaign yet? So far the patches have been geard to multiplayer and nothing for singleplayer campaigns. I know you cant get everything at once just some input on if you have anything planned would be nice.

Guynemer27 → 1/31/2010 6:18:33 PM #

please, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT for this amazing game: we need a nice dynamic campaign with:
- LIFE!!! on the roads, on the seas, on airbase, on villages, in air!! (remember Red Baron?)
- Random encounters and more dynamic (less scripted!) missions, you need to include the element of SURPRISE which was one of the most important variable during WW1, All aces got most of their victories surprising their enemies.
- Nice career from cadet to squadron leader with the possibility to be drafted in a good squadron, change planes, customize plane, get a kill board and a flying hours book, etc...

CombatdudePL → 2/1/2010 3:02:44 AM #

Does anyone from the team NEOQB may kindly answer the simple question? When we have an available option to respawn in multiplayer? I Bought ROF 2009-08-04 and flew in a multi only ONCE ! Im not intrested in singleplayer.... Or we, users have to just wait for BOB-SOW and forget all about your product, which had enormous potential, but developers could not listen to the users .....

hyoslvr → 2/16/2010 2:59:04 PM #

Great idea,I also like this idea because I don't have a lot of time to play online and this would give me a chance to do quick missions to practice.

HopeSais → 2/21/2010 7:59:32 AM #

Since I purchased this game, I could not play it.
What am I doing wrong?
