Next plane

Hello everyone!

I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This past year was very stressful for most of us, but on the other hand, it was also a period of time that brought many questions and just as many answers. We experienced enough to make us feel even older than we are!

We’ve almost finished the basic foundations of Rise of Flight with the release of update 1.009. Now we will direct our focus towards improving gameplay. I can’t be more specific right now, but I’ll let you know more when we’ve finalized the plans for next year.

Currently, we are working on squashing some of the bugs/issues that popped up in the wake of 1.009. And, of course, we will be rolling out a new plane to the RoF airfields. I’m proud to introduce you to the Fokker DVIII, the first RoF monoplane! Among many other features, she also includes a bullet counter, making her one of the most unique planes yet. I’m eager to see what you all think of this “modern” bird.

The next update will be released at the end of December, 2009, and as we journey into 2010, update 1.010 will be joining us too!

I’ll be back soon with more news.

Look forward going into 2010 with neoqb!

Merry Xmas to the Dev team!

stefostef → 12/6/2009 10:15:50 PM #

Nice, but i'd rather prefer a SPAD VII or a german opponent to the lonely Nieuport 17.

Give us early planes !!!!

WF2 → 12/6/2009 10:18:48 PM #

I got to get me one of these!

Just full of awesomeness.

BlueNinja → 12/7/2009 3:51:49 PM #

Is there only going to be the one plane released? I thought it was great having two planes released at a time to keep the sides balanced.

Karma-Police → 12/7/2009 5:57:00 PM #

Why there is a rectangular hole in the cowling ?!
I have never seen this in WW1 photos... Will you correct it before sending to the store ? (will you see my comment ????)

rlewin → 12/7/2009 6:03:30 PM #

Put the thing in the shop, I'll prepay then you can use the cash to keep up the excellent development.
Cheers

I'm sure I won't buy this one. I'd like to see earlier & more important planes.

ptrandel → 12/8/2009 2:46:16 AM #

I'm sure the DVIII will be fun to fly, but I agree that there are several more "important" planes that I'd rather see at this point.  The Albatros DII and Spad VII come to mind right away.

Evil_Merlin → 12/8/2009 4:32:39 AM #

Well I know what I'm using my aircraft credits on...

flounder1 → 12/9/2009 8:21:57 AM #

Like to see a Fokker E.111 or Airco DH2

BigQ → 12/11/2009 12:12:55 PM #

"Like to see a Fokker E.111 or Airco DH2"

I second that!

Anyway, good to see work is still in progress and dev's communication with fanbase goes smoothly.

Aiolos → 12/11/2009 7:22:54 PM #

"Flying razor" is my favourite WW I's plane.I was thinking about it,released to game, from the first time I purchased ROF...I believe it is very important & unique plane for the game,'cause it was the last and the most revolutionary and efficient Germany's design and saw some action.Something like Luftwaffe's last projects in WW II.Also is very beautiful.I do not find words to thank ROF's developer team...Anyway,GREAT THANKS!!!It was a real Christmas gift!
p.s. sorry for my bad english,I am trying hard,to be better.

Your work is excellent !I'm very proud having this marvellous simulator ( sorry for my english )

mitchismo → 12/14/2009 12:37:58 AM #

I'm excited for the monoplane. You've done so well to imbue each of the planes with their own personality, from the graceful and easy Spad XIII to the aggressively asynchronous Sopwith (turn one way and it's great, turn the other way and it's a beast).

I really appreciate your effort.

As far as those who think a later plane is less interesting than the earlier planes, that may be so, but the later planes are definitely easier to model because they were, in fact, less idiosyncratic. The earlier planes had all sorts of characteristics that made them unique to their age--problems that were repaired in later revisions and never repeated throughout the history of flight. Modeling these from the anecdotes of the pilots is difficult business. As the war progressed, the planes became more predictable and thus easier to model.

I suggest, although I have no evidence to back up, that the engineers might be modeling later planes first because it's just more efficient that way. Deal with the less unpredictable planes first, then modify those models backwards to attain the kinds of instability and failure points of the earlier aircraft.

mitchismo → 12/14/2009 12:44:26 AM #

And, if it isn't clear from my earlier post, I'll buy every plane you offer for this package as long as you keep the quality of the aircraft so high. And you have. Whenever I find myself frustrated with the handling of a plane, I can just go to Wikipedia to find myself commiserating with pilots of the age. That kind of accuracy is incredible, and I love it. I feel like, from the comfort of my own home, I'm battling many of the exact same situations as the great aces.

That said, if I had to choose one aspect to improve it would be the campaign modes. I want more plot, more characters. I want some kind of a relationship with the other pilots in my swarm. Something like pilots who survived previous missions with you achieving a veteran status of their own that make them even stronger allies as the game progresses and gives you more incentive to see them survive.

GAJIT → 12/15/2009 1:04:32 AM #

I agree - has to be high quality and I will always purchase.

uhoh7 → 12/16/2009 11:11:50 PM #

just want to say I finnaly have most of my issues sorted, TIR working decent (could be better, hehe) and I am lovin your sim!

I have all but one or two of your add on planes--the graphics look great on my machine.

I just hope in the long run we get a good online community going--maybe with the abilty to join a DF.

Thank you for all your fantasic work

Nunnother → 12/26/2009 4:39:13 PM #

Re above message, should have read.

Are there any plans to release the Sopwith Triplane or Pup?

sherman → 12/29/2009 5:35:13 AM #

I can't do it because my computer is not that good but what's the next plane

sherman → 12/29/2009 5:41:13 AM #

I want the next plane to be the Sopwith triplane

sherman → 12/30/2009 4:04:59 AM #

I know lot's of italan planes why not put them on ROF.

narcopnut → 12/30/2009 12:54:37 PM #

just getting to grips with this simulation very impressed with detail landings are quite something especially as no brakes and fixed landing gear...look foreward to a good 2010 with more new planes and maybe something extra on multiplayer?

sherman → 1/2/2010 3:51:30 PM #

You know how I was telling about those Italian biplanes well why not because they had over 32 diffrent planes.I know that because I got this book called Italian planes of ww1.So you could type Italian planes of ww1 on Google or something diffrent and it will com up with lot's of diffrent planes.Thats all from me now and look out for more letter's from me.

sherman → 1/2/2010 4:00:11 PM #

yo yo I like rof but I real real want to know what the next plane is ...Is it an Itaian plane because remember the letter's before.    p.s Im not Italian I just want there to be some Italian biplanes on.

eafosprey → 1/6/2010 6:14:20 PM #

I think there needs to be the Sopwith Triplane next to balance out the DR1 dogfight capabilities.

psychotic-tend. → 1/9/2010 12:22:17 AM #

I agree that we should have one earlier german plane to VS the lonely np17c, and defenitly first of all sopwith tri, and the snipe. A bit difficult trying to shoot down a Dr1 in a dog fight with camel and the only other option is boom n zoom with se5 or spad. giving the d8 just makes the ballance favor germans even more, don't get me wrong i'm not saying it's impossible just now with the d8...germans have the better options. sopwith tri and snipe please! defenite sellers there.  Psychotic Tendensies

Baytown → 1/14/2010 10:31:28 PM #

Yep, earlier aircraft. How about a Pusher type Gun Bus???

Wonderful plane. And when we will see the Sopwith Triplane....

M3-SRT8 → 2/4/2010 7:12:23 AM #

Ahhh....Fokker EV/DVIII.

BIG Question: Is it the early (EV) version with defective wing spars which will break easily in flight, or is it the DVIII, with the strengthened wing?
