Our next plane

Good day!

Our next plane for Rise of Flight will be Albatros D.III — a future good opponent for Nieuport 17.C1, which is already avalaible for purchasing at our web-store.

Albatros D.III is considered as one of the most successful fighters of WWI. For many times Albatros D.III proved its superiority over the French and English planes. This fighter is also known as the most commonly used fighter during “Bloody April of 1917”.

Known Albatros D.III aces — Manfred Richthofen (“the Red Baron”) and Godwin Brumovsky.

We plan to complete Albatros D.III by the middle of August, 2009. Next week our testers will receive this plane and detailed information will appear in our shop as well.

Great news. If only Paypal were working yet. I'd really like to buy some planes. Credit card is no option for me (monthly fees too high here).

An excellent choice! Many thanks.

Correct your typist's error:Manfred von Richthofen.

Yes and Godwin Brumowski was austro-hungarian ace, which flew with Albatros D.III Oeffag - it is other aircraft than german Albatros D.III (other engine, other internal construction etc.)! D.III Oeffag series "253" was visual very different! (see here: www.wwiaviation.com/.../AlbatrosDIII_Oeffag_2.jpg )

Great Albatros D.III ace? E.g. Karl Allmeröder, Kurt Wolf, Adolf von Tutschek, Rudolf Berthold, Karl Emil Schäfer, Werner Voss, Bruno Lörzer, Friedrich Kempf, Julius Buckler and many many more...

Ice_Cold → 8/1/2009 4:49:14 PM #

Correct to Richthofen please Smile

Bleddyn → 8/1/2009 5:01:35 PM #

no, correct to "von Richthofen" please Smile

squid → 8/1/2009 5:14:14 PM #

Wonder if we will get a Richtofen skin ?

JFM → 8/1/2009 5:14:51 PM #

Yes, MvRichthofen flew an Albatros D.III, but not the OAW version depicted in the screenshots. Will you be modeling the classic Johannisthal version, with the squared rudder and ventian red/olive green/pale green 3-color wing/stabs camo?

Richty → 8/1/2009 5:29:58 PM #

Niiicee!

Wil there be more skins included then the S.E.A5/Pfaltz?.

Or is there a Eta on the skins being unlocked/templates being made for user made skins?

TX-Gunslinger → 8/1/2009 8:32:41 PM #

Voss! Baumer! Menckhoff!

Awesome news....

Nice.  Keep up the good work.

Wonderful plane. Please get Paypal so I may buy the Albatross DIII, SE5a, and Pfaltz DIII. Great work on the five planes I have now!

JFM → 8/2/2009 4:48:01 AM #

"Voss! Baumer! Menckhoff!"

I only remember Baumer's and Menckhoff's D.Vs but certainly we won't see a Voss skin, unless ROF throws accuracy to the wind. He flew Johannisthal-built D.IIIs, not an OAW-built machine, which is featured in the screenshots. I.e., no vertical trailing edge on the rudder, no olive green/venetian red/pale green camo. OAWs had the rounded "D.V-esque" rudder and green/mauve camo.

OAW D.IIIs are still cool machines, but those classic ace skins that come to mind were mostly with the Johannisthal D.IIIs. Staffeln began receiving those in January 1917 so perhaps a bit early for the current planeset.

Nice to somebody remembers "Bloody April". I'd like to see a Voss skin and the correct version! But then, to get really picky, we may have to have adjusted lines positions too!

How about some Sopwith Tripes, Camels and Pups?

Closter → 8/2/2009 11:56:07 PM #

Cool, but we need more bomber 2

Tonyota → 8/3/2009 2:33:44 AM #

Superb, I bought the other airplanes too and they steer and act all different and look awesome!!

I love the game alot, these add-ons are very much appreciated, hope some fixes will be done soon too!!

About the "red baron":
Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen is his complete name. refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Baron

But what the heck, everyone knows who is mentioned!!

KEEP UP THE WONDERFULL WORK & GRAPHICS!! RESPECT!!

JFM → 8/4/2009 3:21:23 AM #

No OAW versions of the D.III, as neoqb is offering (pictured above), in Bloody April, folks. They weren't even ordered for production until April 1917. The OAW D.III is a later version that was built concurrently (although at a different factory) with the D.V. and didn't start appearing in the Staffeln until summer 1917.

Regardless, looking forward to flying her! Hopefully with a Jasta 4 Wüsthoff skin.

well then, this Albatros would be a significantly better plane than N17....thw two are not the competitors...but as JFM wrote: Regardless, looking forward to flying her

Slobbmaster → 8/12/2009 10:43:28 AM #

It would be good to see the new community manager answer some of these questions....oh well!

Milestone → 8/15/2009 5:16:21 AM #

Beyond the additional historical aspects, what will this plane add in terms of game play? My understanding is that the OAW DIII is not really that different a plane than a DVa. Am I wrong? Why would I spend money for a plane that's very similar to one I already have?

Wouldn't it have been better to have added something a little more different, like the DR1 or perhaps the Camel or Tripe on the other side?

I'm not criticizing, and I love the game, with high hopes for it's future. It just seems to me that the planes present so far are fairly similar.

Habu → 8/17/2009 1:35:19 AM #

It's the oposite for the Nieuport 17.

If you want to fly mission from the begining of the war, that plane and the nieuport 17 are yours.

Actualy me and other people are waiting that plane because we fly with the nieuport 17, and we don't have any plane to oppose it.

You can have the same though about Nieuport 17. If you're doing only dogfight, or campaign at the end of th war, those plane are not for you.

But if you fly a campaign in a squadron at the beginning of the war, it's a must have.

So can we have any news about that plane, please.

Milestone → 8/17/2009 8:12:05 AM #

Cool. Beyond the historical context, though, I was wondering how the experience of flying an OAW DIII is going to be that much diffent than flying at DVa, given the similarities of the two planes.

I'm not trying to second guess you, and I an extremely impressed with what you've been able to accompplish with this game already, but how about something different from what's already available, like for example a turn fight light a DR1, matched with a high level zoomer like a Sopwith Dolphin on the other side.  An F2B wouuld fulfill my fantasies, but I digress.

Anyway, please accept this all as constructice criticism. I love this games and hope to play it or many years to come.

JFM → 8/17/2009 11:48:37 PM #

The Albatros D.III (OAW) was not used at the beginning of the war. No Albatros D was; they didn't start appearing at the front until late summer 1916. I.e., mid-war. The D.III OAW variant, which neoqb is modeling, didn't appear until summer 1917, which is nearly three-quarters of the way through the war. Examples of early-war German scouts are Fokker Es and Halberstadt Ds.

Milestone → 8/18/2009 9:42:56 AM #

Again, how is a late DIII going to differ enough from a DVa to make me want to buy it?

Anybody?

Milestone → 8/19/2009 5:30:39 AM #

So it's pretty much the same plane with a slightly different skin then?

Uberking → 8/19/2009 11:32:56 AM #

Not really if you look the D.III has a much higher set upper wing than the D.V has.So it should perform diffrently. It is simular to the D.V so I guess the players who are less into the subtale diffrences wont be as interested. That is the next plane if you want it buy if you dont then dont or a least wait to see what others say about it if you are not sure.

Milestone → 8/19/2009 7:13:55 PM #

Fair enough. And apologies from coming off like a jerk. Something different, like the DR1, or maybe a Sopwith Dolphin would have been nice though.

Anyway, back to practising with the SE5a.

Cheers

MattM → 8/20/2009 2:07:18 PM #

I would've also liked to see a Sopwith (Dolphin, Pup, Camel). I'am not sure if i buy it. I currently only have the SE5 as an addon, so the next one for me should be a german plane. But i think i will probably go with the Pfalz, because it's just a bit more different than the DV, compared to the Albatros DIII.
