Rise Of Flight
Admin → 17. April 2009 12:43

One world - one price

Rise of Flight will be distributed worldwide at a uniform price. Variations are possible only because of the publishing activities in different countries and should be minimal.

And yet - "we are Russians, that’s explains a lot".

In Russia and CIS countries Rise of Flight will be released in a limited edition of 15 000 jewel-packs and 2 000 unique collection editions.

After all copies of these editions will be sold out, Rise of Flight can be purchased in digital distribution on the world price (will inform later where and how). Advance order (Russia and CIS) of our game is now open.

In any country in the world, and at what price would you buy a ROF, you can play from your home country, if you have Internet access.

Beta-testing of ROF  is currently running, and we’ve got more than 300 participants connected to our servers from 30 countries of the World.

Also, the game is actively exploring by the representatives of the press worldwide. Here is one of the reviews.

Awesome Laughing

aircastellon → 4/17/2009 2:22:36 PM #

And out of Russia and CIS countries we´ll be able to buy a limited Edition of ROF?... I love manuals, box and everything

heady89 → 4/17/2009 2:32:10 PM #

Just hope its a simultaneously release between international and Russian version. Would be a bugger if we have to wait longer Smile.

Feuerfalke → 4/17/2009 2:35:05 PM #

Looks like we can't aircastellon.

The distributor apparently only is active in Russia and CIS. When these hardcopies are sold, it will be available as download to everybody else.

In other words:
Boxed version with Russian pricelevel, then download with Western price-level.

JG52Uther → 4/17/2009 2:56:36 PM #

What a surprise.
Can anyone say how many times RoF can be reinstalled before it stops working?
Or can it be be backed up to disc?

FlyXwire → 4/17/2009 3:19:03 PM #

Great news Neoqb, but man, would I love to get one of those collectors editions too!

heady89 → 4/17/2009 4:31:20 PM #

By the way, if anyone could translate roughly what was said in the preview I'd appericate it a lot Smile

@ JG52Uther
It's STEAM. You can install it on any PC you want and as often as you want, but you can only play it with your account logged in.

Interesting - Releasedate for Russian DVD-Version: April.

I'd say we're pretty close then ;)

heady89 → 4/17/2009 5:15:22 PM #

April, doubt it..
If it's true then I'll take a run around the square naked.

I want to own a disk that I can play without connecting.  I will wait and see.  I would hate to see this go the way of Lighthouse entertainment's T34 vs. Tiger.  Release game...wait a month....go bankrupt/close forums.

9N/209RAF → 4/17/2009 5:33:35 PM #

I also would like to get one of those collectors editions, assuming that the text would be in English ...
any chance of advance orders from the West?

heady89 → 4/17/2009 6:43:33 PM #

T34 Vs Tiger was a horrible buggy game at launch.
I wouldn't blame it's failure on the online distribution , the game was crap.

lubcke → 4/17/2009 6:44:10 PM #

It is not very smart move, to limit yourself selling product.
When I've read that sentence: "we are Russians, that’s explains a lot",- I thought: "oh crap, Russian chauvinistic nationalism", but after I finished reading announcement, that thought changed to: "we are not going to sell to you, because off we are russians..." Smile

Gremlin_WoH → 4/17/2009 6:44:23 PM #

The beta test just started. How could it be released in April? A beta test could well take up to 3 months of heavy testing and reviewing.

Feuerfalke → 4/17/2009 7:14:08 PM #

@ lubcke:
The limit is probably set by the Russian/CIS-only distributor.

But I agree, it's not really good advertising to tell people what they will not get and that the tiny thing they will get instead, will only be available after the other copies are sold out and at more than double the price.
You guys should think about a PR-advisor. ;)

MJ → 4/17/2009 9:33:26 PM #

To the ROF team:
Thank you for making every reasonable effort to ensure price uniformity. I may only ask a team to do the best a team can do. Your product is wonderful and your attention to the customer market is frankly superb. Thank you for considering my interests.  I look forward to buying this great sim.
                                                                                                    All the best,

I prefer to pay a little more and buy the Box Edition... I think that a lot of people thinks like me

TSmoke → 4/18/2009 12:52:07 AM #

MJ are you on crack maybe a Russian fanboy, but sounds more like a crack head to me. " your attention to the customer market is frankly superb."

Its available to the west as a download and you can only play the game with a internet connection. Piss poor customer service and relations. WW1 sim is a niche within a niche = a very small pool of flight simmers interested in WW1.

Who ever is looking after the marketing and public relations must be sharing the same ball of crack that your on!!

creamer → 4/18/2009 2:49:16 AM #

@ Gremlin_WoH

Either they had closed beta testing, then opened it to get a public eye on things at the point of which the closed beta testing was already finished or..

thats the way they do it in Russia ;)

MJ → 4/18/2009 3:32:56 AM #

TSmoke,
No. Crack is wack. lol The ROF team will introduce more single player features in time. They will introduce a dynamic campaign engine, if I am correct. You really dislike the Internet connection and the digital download options, this is for sure. I like both ideas. You used the Internet to access this forum. I am sure you will have no problem with the Internet connection once the sim is installed. Maybe your connection is slow? The download of the sim may take time, under that condition. I do feel that the ROF team did a superb job of representing my concerns. I will enjoy flying with you TSmoke....with my crack pipe in one hand and the joystick in the other. =)What side are you going to fly for?
All the best,
        MJ

Bobb4 → 4/18/2009 8:34:50 AM #

Please explain only available in Russia?????
And then later the West. Give a time frame for the fantastic bit of logic?
A month, three months, a year?
Almost every second statement from you guys seems either not thought out or designed to annoy your very small potential market.
So could we actually have real world details. A western release date, pricing and when will the first post market planes be available.
My guess is international distributors have told you to take a hike until you can produce more than four flyable planes...
I will still buy the product, but seriously guys get better PR people

heady89 → 4/18/2009 1:15:55 PM #

MJ → 4/18/2009 5:26:57 PM #

Is everyone familiar with Steam? Steam works differently from typical digital downloads. On a typical digital download, you have three or more opportunities to download a product and then you must make a case for renewing your digital download. You may lose your digital download. Steam downloads are associated with customer accounts. This means that if you decide to buy a new computer you do not have to copy over setup files for ROF to the new computer. You just set up your new computer, go to your account and download the local content of ROF onto your new computer. You may download ROF every day of the week, if you want to do so, and on every computer in your home that your Steam account is associated with.  Steam is a lot more than a direct download provider. Steam provides a one stop shop online community. All of the online squads will be able find one another easily, browse all the available servers and set up times to fly with one another. ROF will be updated automatically, ensuring that all squads may play in multiplayer, without worrying about incompatibility or the introduction of cheats, etc.  I hope this helps people unfamiliar with Steam.

Maestro → 4/18/2009 8:15:21 PM #

@MJ.I use Steam and have no problems with it.Steam update games when it has a update and you not need too look for the update's.And it can tell you how is online of you squad budys or friends, allso it has a chat or message. In chat you can have a mic,I use it a lot for game as for Left4dead,DOD,Insurgency.
Allso Steam has a Community and you can Invite, put in groups and see you Overview of you stats. And you can see what game your friends are playing at that time.
As for Download a game, you download the game after you pay and go play.Finding a server is allso in steam it helps a lot.
I hope I have help some what with this comment.

Feuerfalke → 4/18/2009 9:22:40 PM #

Agreed. No problems here with Steam either.

BTW: Steam has already a group open for Rise Of Flight, just no new updates available, yet ;)

vonHuetz → 4/19/2009 8:28:39 AM #

Indeed, Steam wouldnt be bad to have, still people playíng in a more competitive way, i.e. ladders/leagues prefer hardcopies becuase you can keep some more extra resources on your system and your conection free, limiting lag and crashes to an absolute minimum, since every additional programm you have running is a potential game crasher. Dont get me wrong, I never had any issues with Steam but I know a lot of people who had them and I dont think releasing boxed/disc editions of the game for russia only wont be a smart move. Still I am really looking forward to this Smile

Btw, release a demo already, dont want to wait any longer ffs! ;)

is going to be a DEMO?

Feuerfalke → 4/22/2009 12:09:24 PM #

Yes.

FEdriver → 4/22/2009 3:39:08 PM #

Very impressive. From the niche within a niche WW 1 flyers.
Still have no interest purchasing it though.
While I understand the idea of a dynamic server running the single player campaign mode...I don't like the idea of having to be on the net to play the game.
What happens if you dont have access to DSL or Broadband. Part of the great fun of SP is not having to deal with the Internet.
Also don't like having such a low number of planes being spoon fed to us either. 8 planes? Come on. If I am going to pay those kind of prices I want more than 8 planes and at least some two seaters as well.

For the same price I can by Over Flanders Field ($30) for Single Player, and get IL2 Over Oleg's Fields (Free) when they get finished this year.  And have a lot more planes, as well as better selection.
Anyways you have definitely pushed the envelope of what is to come. I agree with TSmoke in your choice of who you listened to in marketing this game.

heady89 → 4/22/2009 5:06:48 PM #

@FEdriver

OFF and OOF might offer more planes but they will be far out when it comes to an up-to-date engine with physics, graphics, aerodynamics and details also don't forget that they're mods while this is a fully featured flight sim.

You say what happens when Internet goes down?

I always loved SP parts of games but to be honest it's defiantly not because i don't have to be online.. that i am always. I love sp because it usually features story and scripted events etc(other games).

You say INTERNET can go down at anytime, of course it can and what do you do then.. i mean you're even paying for the internet itself so if it goes down following you're reason you'd be furious and not even have an internet because it "could" go down. It's far from the first game requiring an INTERNET connection and people try to make such a big deal out if it whilst it's nothing for the average gamer.

(Today most people are connected to the Internet 24/7)
If it goes down , so be it.. it will be up again.

Feuerfalke → 4/22/2009 8:29:28 PM #

FEdriver, nobody says you need DSL to play offline. Just the stats are transmitted at the end of the mission. You don't have to be online 24/7 for that.
If OOF is enough for you, you are free to choose that. Just don't expect the quality and depth of simulation RoF will give you.
Few planes? Granted. I rather have 2 planes simulated perfectly than 100 planes with similar flightmodells and scripted aerodynamics.

Again, your choice.

aircastellon → 4/22/2009 8:52:49 PM #

Only two plnes in ROF?

Feuerfalke → 4/23/2009 4:28:50 AM #

No, but I'd prefer that over 100 planes with similar flightmodels.

DaHunn → 4/23/2009 6:57:28 AM #

I was wondering did you already sold 17000 copy's?
I hope there is a market for it in Russia and CIS. If not, try selling english versions in the west. I'll promise, it will be sold out in one day.
But I'm not complaining. I'll wait patiently for the download version. I rather have the boxed version. but download have to do. I even have to buy a new computer just to play this game.
Anyway looking forward to a great gaming experience.

Feuerfalke → 4/23/2009 7:56:38 AM #

At least it would be interesting to know how many copies have been preordered.

DaHunn → 4/23/2009 8:50:48 AM #

That should give us a reasonable approximation when the download would be available.

aircastellon → 4/23/2009 10:42:52 AM #

I asked about a new pc for enjoy ROF... 1.375 euros... I can pay 100 euros more for the boxed version of ROF, jajaja... I want it

heady89 → 4/23/2009 11:53:50 AM #

@DaHunn

The market for sims ain't big in the west, it's much larger in Russia and CIS.. west have been consolifyed long ago.

DaHunn → 4/23/2009 2:08:57 PM #

@heady89

I find that hard to believe. I think the net income of a averaged person in the west exceeds that in Russia. Far less people (but probably still enough) are willing to spend 1300 euro's for a pc. And pc gaming industry is still bigger than the console market. The more experienced gamers or "flight simmers" are in my opinion older people compared to console gamers which are younger. But that is just my opinion. The boxed version will cost around 40 euros in Russia anyway. That is cheap compared to flight simulator X.
The fact is that we have to wait for the download. At the end I hope that we don't wait to long.

Feuerfalke → 4/23/2009 3:16:31 PM #

You don't need a 1300 Euro-PC to enjoy the game. Honestly, 1300 Euro is waste of money. You can get a top-notch PC for 800 Euro if you know what to buy for best performance. But you should not underestimate the CIS-markets.

Besides that, you calculated the prices wrong: The jewel-box is 31 Euros, the normal DVD costs 11 Euros.

The CIS market has 2 other factors, though, that may collide with these marketing plans. The one was learned in December by EagleDynamics, the other is based on a personal observation, so I will keep that for myself to not cause a stir in the fishbowl. ;)

aircastellon → 4/23/2009 9:21:38 PM #

aircastellon, are you aware that you can only use 4 GB of your 6GB RAM with a 32bit Windows OS? You need the 64bit-version to use your 6GB.

2 aircastellon

Almost the exact spec that I had decided on for my spec. We could argue over the vid card and more memory is always usefu, but everything else is exact match to my parts list! I admire your taste! ;0)

Peripeherals (monitor(s), pedals, joysticks, etc) are also a point of discussion....?

To Feuerfalke, what´s your suggestion for a good pc for ROF?
To Jurgen Bachmann, this pc it´s a monster pc with the last in technology I think (for ROF and Storm of War Wink

Feuerfalke → 4/24/2009 12:11:18 PM #

Looks nice (though I don't like Gigabyte from personal experiences).

Just one point: Your system will have 1GB of VideoRAM, 6GB of RAM.
But any 32bit system can only handle up to 4GB, in the worst case INCLUDING your graphics memory!!!
That would mean you can use 1 GB of graphics memory + 3GB RAM from you 6GB installed in the worst case.

I suggest you use Vista 64bit, so your software can use your hardware to the max.

aircastellon → 4/24/2009 2:30:13 PM #

Thanks a lot Feuerfalke... I am a fan of the air war simulators, I have a lot and all originals (Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe from Lucas, Red Baron, Red Baron II and 3D, Aces over Europe and Aces of the Pacific from Dynamix, European Air War, 1942 The Pacific Air War from Micrprose, Flying Corps Gold from Dinamic, Combat Flight Simulator 1, 2 and 3, Dawn Patrol, IL-2 1946...). I hate stutters and I love to enjoy the best quality in graphics and I think that it is only possible with a very good pc

bluemaxy → 5/1/2009 3:35:54 PM #

I have been looking forward to this sim for years following the Gennadich updates weekly... but I have lost interest lately. Yes, I know and use Steam but I want a WW1 sim that I can use off-line for single-player most of the time. Also, the attitude seems mean spirited and tight-fisted only giving 2 planes when from the updates we know that many are prepared. When you think of the generosity and openness that usually exists in flight-sim communities RB,CFS2,IL-2 etc the attitude from NEOQB seems to be tight and might ultimately be very counter-productive to them making the kind of profits that this attractive looking sim could potentially make for them. I prefer buying it in a box, playing single-play off-line, update if and when I choose and generous free additional plane updates... in short just like IL-2. I might still buy it but it's hard to love something when the company seems to want to milk those who want to support this sim for all they can. I was retiring Rb3d with mods in anticipation of this sim but lately dear old RB is looking pretty sweet again. I think Maddox/Ubi had it right with IL-2... updating it into Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters which I gladly bought because it was and is a great sim and worth every cent. I don't want to pay for every plane that I want to fly... they should come with the initial purchase price. Additionally... this is a great-looking sim but that doesn't mean it is a great sim - that remains to be seen

=353=WALKER → 5/1/2009 11:10:50 PM #

When I look at this sim I see a great big beautiful mansion.
The problem is,its sitting on the edge of a cliff by the ocean, and
you just know its going to fall in it soon.

Would you please put a post for projected release dates for the rest of the world?

Black_Cross → 5/5/2009 1:39:33 AM #

I was saddened, as many others were, to read that only Russia and CIS would receive boxed jewel cases and the rest of the world would only get a digital download. I hope you guys reconsider and have some luck investigating the Europe/North American market for a publisher, with the way the economy is going, I'm sure you will find someone willing to do it.

With Steam (something I never liked from my days of Counter Strike Source), are you able to save the setup files and make a disc of your own ? I really do not want to rely on Steam to download the game again if my computer takes a turn for the worst.

Either way, I have, as others, have been patiently waiting for the release so I know in which ever method I get the game, I know I will not be disappointed.

PS. Is there a single player campaign included or purely multiplayer for the initial release ?

WWSandMan → 5/20/2009 10:27:04 AM #

Looks like the west will be seeing a boxed version after all:

http://www.777studios.net/

http://www.777studios.net/files/Rise_of_Flight_Press_Release.pdf

simhq.com/.../STICKY_777_Studios_to_Publish_.html

While I will be buying the game regardless of the price, I was quite disappointed to see that we'll be paying twice as much for it in the west. Doesn't compare very favorably with the "One world, one price" theme of this blog entry.
