Clouds

Today we with designers considered and discussed clouds in our project. And, off course, we thought about what's done and what else it's necessary to do.

For those of you who has come across  us in a network for the first time, I'll tell you what we dreamt about. We wanted our clouds to be not simply typical scenery necessary for the project, connected with aircraft and the sky. They should be something important, that we imagine when we tell "to fly in clouds". Therefore we created new technologies and searched for new ways. This problem (as well as all in modelling) appeared huge - of course we only managed to come closely to  revelation available for everyone - if he is not too lazy to lift a head.

For admirers of a genre I will add that we also wished to make clouds an object of game. Because of cloud's huge size air fight near to it is the cascade of maneuvers which can hide you from the opponent or help to approach without a notice. We have achieved much, and work on system of weather is ahead which will make the sky even more live, and flight - even more fascinating.

Well Albert, you guys are the dream team for many of us flight sim fans, because you're showing us things here that we've only been able to dream about till now!

This video, from the cockpit details, to the clouds, and the flight sounds is just jaw-dropping fantastic!

Looking good guys!

Clouds are important to any flight game, yet I have to believe very daunting to get right. Implementing them in an online experience where each pilot sees the same formations, density, etc. is critical to the experience. If you are able to achieve those things, and keep them looking as good as they appear now...we are truly in for a treat.

Wow, those clouds look amazing!  ...very atmospheric and I can just image how they'd mix into a dogfight...

Now, you guys should incorporate nVidia's physx tech and have the clouds interact with planes' wings... Smile

Absolutely brilliant!!!
Unfortunately, my PC doesn't match the recommended technical requirements. My CPU is Core 2 Duo (Intel) 1.83GHz, and I only have 2GB of RAM, and 256 MB of video RAM. I am running Windows XP though, and the technical requirements are listed for Vista, and they say that it can be a bit less for XP. Will I be able to run this game with full graphics? Or will I be able to play it with graphics settings on low? Or will I not be able to play it at all?
I've been looking forward to this game and following the news about it for years!!!

We may be able to really experience what it was like to fly in that time of history.  Tremendous job guys!

My jaw dropped!

Finally, the ability to hide in clouds or to be surprised by someone doing the same.

BuddyWoof → 07.02.2009 5:20:47 #

Just watching that video makes me feel like I am flying a WW1 crate.  Just incredible.  Awesome.  Superb.  Brilliant.  The visual and aureal environment is just fascinating.  Kudos!

BadKarma → 08.02.2009 16:53:43 #

Excellent flight experience with those clouds. Even more immersive were the shifting shadows on the aircraft.

2 Camel Charge

Hi there
256 mb Vram is looking fair enough for the minimal graphics requirements, but the picture you receive will be...fair.
2 GB of RAM is enough for winXP, but the processor speed is not enough at any case. We run our tests on similar configuration, but the result was unsuccesful. Even if you set up your settings to low quality, we can't predict more then 10-12 FPS.

chip5541 → 09.02.2009 13:21:34 #

Stunning work. It really reminded me of the clouds during my trips out of state.

BadAim → 09.02.2009 14:28:39 #

Camel Charge, if you have a solid motherboard you should be able to overclock your processor to 2.5 gig or so without to much trouble, those chips are good overclockers. 2.5 ghz should be just enough to get playable frames 'till you can upgrade(or so I would guess), hell, if your brave you might even get it to 2.8 with an aftermarket cooler

WOOOOOW, Perrrrfeito, lindo! Laughing
Nice, great, fantastic, beautiful, awesome... don´t touch more! Smile When i watch the video i can´t close my mouth. Good work guys!
Thanks.

Great to see you people have kept this dream alive. I was once totally obsessed with WW1 flight sims. Looks like I may have to upgrade my computer and dust off my skills 'cause it looks like I may be soon again. Dare I say soon....been so many hopeful starts of sims like this in the last several years. I want to fly off into those clouds!! (sigh)
     SALUTE!

dutch → 10.02.2009 18:19:55 #

note by CC: technical requirements are listed for Vista, and they say that it can be a bit less for XP
Mmmmm lets see, this will be direct10 or direct10.1. Do I have this right????

Lav69 → 10.02.2009 23:02:17 #

Geeezzz. I hope this is coming out soon. Looks so good.

Leocrazy → 11.02.2009 10:42:55 #

2 Dutch
The game require Dx9.0C
But if you want to use 10 or 10.1 - it is up to you Smile

dutch → 12.02.2009 17:57:33 #

This is a litle bit importend, because I want to buy a new video card. If the game is made for 10 then I must go for a 10er, is the game made for 10.1 I need a 10.1 videocard. But if the video quality the same with 9.0C then it will save me a lott of $$$$$$.  Yep my computer will be prepared for RoF.

stlkrash → 12.02.2009 18:16:30 #

So when is this comming out? Do they have any kind of date or what?

dutch → 12.02.2009 18:25:53 #

what Intel procesor is recommended: the Intel core2 Xtreme X9000 2,8 GHz and not Hgz I think???????? What do I need for the AMD, please more spec's????

Hardy Hawker → 04.03.2009 9:50:00 #

Just breathtaking!

The closest thing to the "real" ones I´ve used to seeout the cockpit.
