Map of the gameworld

The gameworld is the world of the military Europe of 1917—1918. Historical maps of that time are taken for the bases. Each map has been thoroughly studied and converted into a digital format. The map itself consists of a large number of layers which are combined in a single whole. Everything that you see is a handmade work. We have contacted our French game community who has given to us the information about the battles, tactical operations, front lines and so forth. We used Geo-information systems to create rivers, roads, forests and so forth, after that we have combined everything and adhered to co-ordinates on the game map. It was rather complex because we had to find map of heights which in a consequence we took from NASA satellite, SRTM. There were problems with drawing forests and rivers because this information is practically not accessible. Only NASA satellite photos and historical maps have helped us to create a realistic atmosphere of that time. We managed to restore all topographical data and everything is the same like it was 90 years ago.

up – google maps, down – Rise of Flight map

It took us more than a year to create the game world. 4 developers were engaged in the creation process of game world and each and every employee has made his additions. We have created absolutely authentic map of that time. Our game world has no analogues in other games. Our developers combined a large number of historical objects and geographically exact data into one world.

Great but what about net-code for online gaming? - large number of [.] objects [.] into one world - it sounds "laggy" to me. isnt it?

Looks like a good start to the blog, and thank you for this.

The game map to Google map comparison is interesting.  Hopefully we'll see some additional higher-resolution screenshots in the future for these.

Boy,I can't wait to see the map in its entirety!Really cool details and attention to the landscape and fields!I can't wait to fly over the mountains of Alsac and the city of Epinal,a city that I loved to fly over in RB3D.It would incredible to fly over Epinal in this game, and see the differences of the city from RB3D to ROF.I remember before my copy of RB3D failed, that when you go to "Fly Now",you are put into the middle of the Alsac map.I remember the two bridges over the river, behind it,a large hill, and further behind that,an aerodrome, and a little further back,Epinal.(Sigh)Good times!

Looks wonderful!I hope that game includes moving front, changing landscape and others.Red Baron 3D  was guite good, but "big scar"
would not change.

Can't wait hope there will be more planes and also from the early periode.
The high computer spec's is only positive this means realitic looks and great graphics. If my computer can't manage this, I'm gladly going for a upgrade.
See also some guys from the OFF community, who were a little bit negative about RoF, I hope they will notice that this is also a great game.
I agree whit some guy's here, I could not find any alternative for RB3D; FS-WW1, FirstEagles and the buggy OFF2 they still can't that suck you in the screen effect I get for RB3D. So keep in mint, that the campaing must be based on realistic pilot life.

1 question  - WHEN ??? I saw some dates like october 08 - no real i think ... I think it ll no competition simulator , i dont see any reason to hide relase date of this pearl Smile      Your little nervous fan

Albatros_ace → 10/17/2008 7:58:34 PM #

Will there be any playable areas over the alps?

Willi Von Klugerman → 10/18/2008 5:11:24 AM #

Yeah!!the Apls!!Now that would be a sight to see while flying!

Rama → 10/18/2008 9:15:13 PM #

There will be 1 map in the first release (covering most of the front). This map don't cover the Alp mountains.

Albatros_ace → 10/22/2008 1:52:15 AM #

too bad but will there be another map later?

Sandbag → 10/22/2008 4:46:05 PM #

Like the map.  Show me the way to Gerry's lair and I'll bash the Bosche!

Von Maxx → 10/23/2008 4:42:31 PM #

I eagerly await the release of "Rise of Flight". I was a big fan of RB3d when it  came out and finally a game to surpass the virtual WWI fight simm standard. Will the game offer a full mission builder and can the skinning be done with Photoshop CS3.

FEdriver → 11/12/2008 3:52:32 PM #

What you are doing is really cool, unfortunately I am not keen on many of its aspects.
The pay to play is the first real big turn off
Paying $50.00 for two planes, two of which I have no desire to fly..(SPAD and D7).  Then you expect us to pay for each additional 2 planes.

Next Big turn off...you did not take into consideration who would purchase this game. A large number of RB3D/IL2 pilots aer not flying Dual or Quad Core computers nor can we afford it...Many who have hoped and waited for your game to make its appearance really looked forward to it. But once we saw what your marketing and specs were. Said naw..

I can fly my RB3D with the Western Front Patch, or other patches for free and fly alot more planes.

I do really hope you are able to get your product off the ground. But do not count me in among the early throngs for it.

Shrap → 2/27/2009 5:51:05 AM #

I personally would be willing to pay for the aircraft if I'm getting a superior product and will be playing with better players who actually want to play a combat flight simulation game. "IL2 FB" has gotten corrupted in my opinion by players who don't want to play the game as a simulation and I'm fed up with things like blue and red ichons, radar, pad lock, cockpit turned off, out of scale terrain mods, islands with missing volcanoes and so on and so forth. If "Rise of flight" is going to be a real combat flight simulation game I will support it and even build a new computer to play it if need be. If on the other hand the designers bend to usual mob rule of anti realism that was the fate of the IL2 community I will simply loose all interest and do a total uninstall.
